So thinking about a new app…not flushed out all the way yet, but here goes. The app, as mentioned in the title of the blog, would be a combo of something like Foursquare plus a little Angieslist. So people would mark businesses as good places to shop or service providers, which gave great service, then the person who gives out the referral would earn a commission if the new buyer and the referred company complete a transaction. Now their probably is something like this out there already. How would it work? How would you keep track of who bought what and from whom?Well, I am thinking a company would have to create an account or ad, something that shows their business exists. So like AngiesList. When a company completes a job or makes a sale it tells the buyer to go online and create an account as a customer role. There the customer, after registering, can setup all the businesses they like (which have registered or possibly which haven’t registered something like foursquare but they don’t own/aren’t the mayor as anyone can “BECOME A FAN” a business). When the customer chooses to “BECOME A FAN” the business is notified. The business then can offer up free items or discounts for each referral (so a food place can give free drinks or a car dealership can give say $100 per car sold per referral) from anyone who “BECOMES A FAN”.Now how do you not cheat the system. Customers would offer the referral through the site, and the new customer would have to get the referral buy registering on the site as well. So they have to go through the site where they get to contact the business via the web or print something out. Businesses would also have to offer the new customer a discount or free item for going through the website. So lets go through a scenario:Bob uses the Housepainter business to paint his house. Housepainter does a good job. Housepainter tells Bob, “if you send someone my way I will give you a 5% commission on that job you referred my way and I will give the new customer a 5% discount, if they go through the FourAngieSquareList.com service”.Now to get businesses to use the service you would probably also have to offer some other service like a salesforce.com, CRM, accounting package, lead generation management package or something to help them manage the customers, the discounts, etc…Give me 1% of your first round of funding and you can have the idea. Or steal it like some other developers out there in the dating website world. But you wouldn’t be a sleazy like that right?
