So I was extremely excited this morning when Flash 10 dropped this morning. I am currently working on a project with carousel type component that needs to contain 2000 items, which is installed on 500,000 machines. Oh, and these 2000 items need to be 1/2 alpha at times and contain a reflection that matches their current state. So that means no faking the reflection…needs to be real time.
So I download Flash Player 10, hoping to see huge performance enhancements for my component, ….D’ oh! On Flash Player 9 my Mem Usage would top out at 450,000k on my machine now with Flash Player 10 my Mem Usage is 725,000k and my machine locks up. You would think at worst it would be a break even on performance. I mean the code works fine in Flash 9 why not Flash 10? Maybe even slightly faster in Flash 10. I bet someone will leave a comment like well you are getting better performance its running your bad code even faster. I can agree with you, but my bad code, as someone may call it, had no problems in Flash 9.
BIG FAT DISAPPOINTMENT!
At this point I would settle for a break-even on performance, but instead I get to rework the entire component. Oh, wait! Maybe Adobe will pull Flash Player 10 and all will be good?
Yeah, right!
So Adobe I just have to say Bam! Here is a your first black eye distributed by me!
My life is going to suck for the next 48 hours!
